" He who sacrifices thanks offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God." Psalm 50:20 NIV

We as a music and fine arts department must have as the foundation of our ministry the desire to glorify the Lord and to prepare the way for Him to show us His salvation. Our ministry is first to the Lord, then to the body of Christ, and finally to the unbeliever. It is therefore threefold. If any of these parts is lacking, the ministry presented will not be effective. The ministry is not the venue to showplace talent, though we rejoice in the gifts the Lord gives to the body. We are to present our talents before the Lord and allow Him to anoint and use us as He sees fit. The music and fine arts department will seek to be a body that encourages one another and edifies each other, in addition to enthusiastically embracing the leadership and ministries of the local church. As we seek the welfare of each other, we then will be edified individually.

Meetings will be held monthly for the music leadership team that will be selected by the Music Pastor in consultation with the Senior Pastor. The meetings will be times for vision casting, and for discussing new ideas for worship, music presentations, audiovisual needs, retreats, recruitment and other ideas.
Each member will be expected to be in a discipleship course of some sort, whether it is on a Wednesday evening or Sunday morning, and to be a part of regular prayer meetings and rehearsal times. There will be recommended reading of specific books to inspire us in areas of worship and ministry that will hopefully open up areas of discussion for the entire department.

God will inspire us to do many things as a department as we seek Him, the God of CREATION. He will help us in areas of creativity and outreach. We will write our own worship tunes, musicals, and drama presentations, in addition to recording live worship services to bless the body here and abroad. Periodical newsletters will be produced including devotionals, articles, and reviews of new CD's and updates of individuals.
Some short term goals include retreats and fellowship times, bimonthly Concerts of Worship held either on Friday or Saturday evenings. This will involve the youth band as well as the adult worship band and singers. The Word of God will also be a part of these evenings. Music reading courses will be offered so as to improve the basic musicianship of the members of the department, and writing skills.

There are many components to the worship service. Worship is not just musical in nature. There are other areas by which we can ascribe the worthiness to the Lord. Here are some basic ingredients to a worship service:
- Songs of welcome and preparation
- Songs of celebration, worship, dedication, and prayer
- Prayer times - with music support
- Scripture readings and drama presentations - illustrated sermons, human videos
- Celebration of giving - presenting our offerings to the Lord
- Special music - solos and ensembles (vocal and instrumental), choir, youth choir, etc.
- The Sermon and decision time - alter times including vocals and instruments

This is just an overview of what we need to be considering as a worship and fine arts department. It is only the beginning and other ideas will be considered as we grow together. Unity is essential. The first part of 1 Kings 8 tells how all the people gathered together to worship the Lord in the temple of God. And we read in verse 10 " when the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord. And the priests could not perform their services because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple." Oh that we would experience His abiding glory in our lives and in this place as we gather to lead His people into His presence. Let's make that our goal every time we gather.
God bless you as you continue to lift up praises to the Lord.
